In "Wave Goodbye" Conner has to choose whether to be a pro soccer player or remain as a Ranger. I thought it was interesting how Tommy was the mentor here. Since back in the early days of MMPR, the teens used to always leave if they had a opertunity to better themselves. Zordon even encouraged them to do so. Jason, Zack, and Trini left the team to jion the peace conference. Kimberly left to train for the Pan Am Games. Aishia doesn't count since she left to save a civilization from extinction. Billy decided to remain on Aquitar because he found love. Rocky left to start his own dojo ( of course he already had Justin to take his place). Tommy, Kat, Tonya, and Adam left to move on to bigger and better things. Justin left so his dad could take a better job opertunity.

It really shows how things changed in later seasons. Where being a Ranger became more important then the Ranger's personal ambitions. Where we often saw Ranger teams put their carreers on hold to become Power Rangers. Just look at Lightspeed Rescue and Operation Overdrive. In Ninja Storm the teens always have to put their Ranger duties over their hobbies. It isn't until they defeat Lothor, that Blake moves on to become a professional racer.

So it was funny to see it be a big deal when Conner had to decide whether to remain a Ranger or chase his dream. Of course it wasn't like Tommy was critical of him. He was very open minded and encouraged him to make his own decision. I suppose the fact that Tommy saw a lot of Rangers move on like this, in his time. It was Ethan and Kira that gave Conner a hard time about it. Tommy actually defended them. Anyway just an interesting observation to think about.
