It seemed odd for him to just leave Rita in charge when she fought his greatesr rival.

He must have thought she could handle things.

He must have thought Zordon had no chance to beat him and left Rita in charge. It was pretty odd.

Vile already started to invade Zedd's Dark Galaxy. Rita betrayed her father and warned Zedd so she could run the Terran Sector for Zedd. While he trended to the Dark Galaxy. Which took thousands of years to fall to Vile.

Thats actually an interesting idea. Zedd must have had something important to do . He gave up fighting Zordon and left Rita in charge. He wouldn't have done this unless something major was happening elsewhere.

Zedd must have thpught Zordon wasn't as much of a threat anymore. He didn't seem worried about him once he took over for Rita. He thought destroying the Rangers would be easy. At least at first.

Zedd didn't really care about the Earth sector. But saw Rita's failure to conquer Earth as a embarrassment. So he got involved and became obsessed with destroying the Power Rangers.

I can't imagine there being something more important that defeating Zordon. Its odd Zedd would allow Rita to have the responsibility of Rita doing this herself. Also why would he want Rita to have the glory?

Rita must have sold Zedd a bill of goods and made herself look more powerful than she was. Which is part of the reason Zedd is so mad at her.

It really makes no sense The problem is they made this all up as they went along. So later plot developments contradicted themselves.

We don't. really know if Zedd saw Zordon as a big priority at the time. Or if he really wanted the Terran Sector that bad. Earth couldn't really be that advanced to be a huge priority..And we know Zedd thought Zordon was a "old coot".

Zedd trusted Rita and always loved her. Even with his punishment of her, he would have brought her back eventually and married her. The love potion just helped him to realize this.

As powerful as Zordon was, there most have been something even more important on the line. Perhaps it could have been a mission for Dark Specter?

Zedd likely left for what he thought wouldn't be for very long. He had to protect his Dark Galaxy from some outright threat. Be that Vile or someone else. Rita was just supposed to maintain Zedd's Territory in the Earth Sector. But she escalated an offensive against Zordon and his army. Pretty much for her own personal gain and risked the wrath of Zedd if she failed. Succeeding would have allowed her to overthrow Zedd or at least rise in the hierarchy of the UAE.

Once Zordon and Rita had their stalemate ( Rita trapped in the Dumpster and Zordon the timewarp) Zedd had no reason to return to the tarran sector. Since it was no longer an attractive area by that point. And more importantly Zordon was thought to be dead. Rita was most likely assumed dead as well, as the good guys wouldn't advertised where she was trapped. But in any case Zedd didn't care about her any longer either. As he could boast his forces finished off Zordon without worrying about Rita being around to take the credit.

Once Rita escaped and Zordon was outed as being alive. There was much more incentive for Zedd to see Zordon get taking out. Also Vile took over the Dark Galaxy by the end of Season 1. Zedd had to rebuild his empire. And what better way would it be for him to finally revive Rita and be the one to really take out Zordon. Zedd would have been extremely mad at Rita for her failures and wouldn't want her around. He would also know that she would stab him in the back at the first opportunity.

I could see where something embarrassing happened to Zedd. Given that he seems to have no further territory when the machines force him out. And really hated to take Vile's help. Beyond the fact he was his father-in-law.

Zedd was arrogant and believed he didn't need to worry about Earth and its surrounding planets. He felt he could lead Rita to deal with Zordon. As he had more important things to do. He later was shocked to see Rita have so much trouble against the Rangers. And thought it would be easy to defeat them.
