Was Gennai ever explained?

My last thread reminded me of something.??In Season 2, the whole Digimon World Tour kicked off thanks to Gennai appearing in the real world to guide the DigiDestined on their quest to return all Digimon to the Digital World.??But this wasn't the Gennai we remembered from the first season, this Gennai had his youth restored and he was cloned into many ethnic versions of himself, including men named Benjamin and Jose.??Gennai promised he'd explain everything later, but after the tour ended, he went back home.??What was up with that?

I don't know but the explanation never came so I do wonder about that whole Gennai business as well in Season 2. Were they all clones that were in the Real World?
