Default Why did the UAE want earth so bad?

It seems like there were plenty of other planets worth conquering?

Because it was Zordon 's secret base of operations. The cat was out of the bag after Rita was freed from her dumpster. This made Angel Grove ground zero for years.

I think they just didn't like losing to the Power Rangers and wanted to prove they could beat them.

Zordon was there. He was their main threat. Even when Zordon left Astronema was sent to distract the Space Rangers. Since they were looking for Zordon.

Angel Grove also seemed to be home to a lot of ancient tech which Zordon used to make his zords and possibly the Command Center.

I think in the beginning Zedd and Rita wanted Earth to add to their conquests. Zedd left before Zordon came and Rita was trapped by the Eltarian. By the time she woke up she just wanted revenge. But then the UAE became aware of Zordon's location and the war was set to begin.

Which is why Zordon had to get back to Eltar so quickly. He knew he had been found out and it was only a matter of time before Dark Spector made his move. Earth wasn't ready for that kind of assault. So it had to be Eltar. Plus Zordon had to go back there to take charge of his side. Everything he did during Turbo was to prepare for the coming war. This included having the powers passed to the teens from the Millennium Message. Zordon and Dimitria were able to find out the rest of the message off screen. But didn't tell the Rangers. They just told the older teens that they were letting them go to explore their lives.

I think the Mellenium Message was sent by Zordon from the future. In the original timeline he watched all the Rangers and the rest of his allies die. Before the UAE destroyed themselves and the Galaxy from civil war...He sent a message through Blue Centurion so his past shelf would know what he had to do to prevent the future. He made sure it went to Dimitria because it was too dangerous to sent the Police Bot to Eltar with the war about to erupt. Its likely part of the message told Zordon that he had to sacrifice himself to save everyone. So in the new timeline Zordon dies making sure his Rangers don't.

It would make sense that Zordon knew he had to sacrifice himself ahead of time. Or at least that it was the only hope past a certain point.

Zordon wanted to get captured so he would be in position to release his we've in the worst case scenario.
